Must-Read to Combat Bible Bullies

In their controversial new book, C. Arthur Ellis and Leslie Ellis exposed "hate mongering Bible bullies for what they are" and "arm potential victims against these hate-filled pseudo-Christians who give real Christians a bad name." Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got The Good Book So Wrong explores the critical topics that helps Christians recognize these bullies while providing the ammunition of Scriptures in an attempt to combat them. Jesus fought the Pharisees who acted the same way during His days on Earth. Christians should be able to do the same without feeling guilty or bullied into acting any differently.
In my humble opinion, lily-livered, pansy-assed, bleeding-heart, wishy-washy, America-hating, namby-pamby Christian judgments don't adhere to the teachings of Jesus. After reading their book, I believe Ellis and Ellis have the same opinion. They also supported my idea that being a Christian isn't about the rules but about the relationship we have with Jesus. Their book began with helping us understand who these bullies are. This was done with a brief list and description of fourteen personality traits of these bullies, their tactics, and how they misuse the Bible to abuse others. They then discussed the bullies' key subjects of bullying: misogyny, child abuse, family planning, sexual diversity, alcohol, social programs, creationism (or intelligent design), and public prayer. Each of these areas were well discussed and adequately supported with associated Scriptures.
Through several of their discussions, Ellis and Ellis supported my belief that fundamentalist Christians talk about the teachings of Jesus, but prefer going back to the dark ages of Israel when the Abrahamic God destroyed entire cities and entire nations in fits of genocidal rage, along with ordering the rape of women and slavery. In fact, many Christians believe it better to be 'right' than to have a relationship with another. However, Jesus didn't teach us to be right. Jesus further understood the importance of probing our beliefs if we want to establish the credibility of information. Questioning long-standing dogma should be encouraged instead of being used as evidence for punishment, something a Bible bully wouldn't hesitate to do.
Bible Bullies is definitely a challenging read that provides useful information for anyone who wants to challenge these bullies. I firmly believe that Jesus would never become a modern, Bible-thumping, hypocritical, self-righteous Christian (aka Bible Bully). This book is a must-read for anyone who wants to combat those using the Bible to force or coerce others into conforming to their bullying beliefs.

This book came out shortly after the book "Christian Controversies: Seeking the Truth" and because of a similar theme, I felt compelled to read it. "Bullies" contains interesting facts; I especially enjoyed the author pointing out facts about Paul and how much of the Bible he wrote (I don't want to spoil this for potential readers), etc. These are facts that everyone should know and contemplate.
Anyone who regularly reads or quotes Scripture must read this book and ask themselves, "What am I really saying" and "Are my words and actions truly Christ-like?"

Bible Bullies: How Fundamentalists Got The Good Book So Wrong is a good read for people who want to follow the example of Jesus, and it gives some really great answers to the bullying and badgering that false "Christians" use to try to get their way.
I'm really disgusted to see preachers, along with what I'll call modern-day Pharisees, use the Bible to condemn others. This is not what Jesus taught us to do. One Christian blog, attacking Dan Savage, suggested that he use a gun to shoot himself. This is so wrong--and so not Christian--to condemn and attack others, even when they attack us.
And, like Nuns on the Bus, I've always wondered by some Christians attack the very social programs that feed the poor and help the needy. Sure, there is abuse in these programs, but when run properly, they carry out what Jesus told us to do.
I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to be more than a card-carrying Christian.
