Critical Issues In American Religious History: A Reader is a chronologically arranged compendium of documents and essays grouped into those relevant to fifteen key issues. Examples of these key issues include "How Religious was the American Revolution?", "How did the factory and the city influence American religion?", and "How did religion in America contribute to the rise of the civil rights movement?" A scholarly, analytical book filled with perspectives and cross-perspectives, Critical Issues In American Religious History is very highly recommended for anyone with a serious interest in learning more about the history of religion in the America experience.

This book is being used as a text for my class in Church History. It is a compilation of essays and select historical documents from US history. It is easily understood and very readable.

Droll at best, Arduous at worst.

I am not certain what I expected of this book, but it failed. While it looks impressive on a shelf, I find this book about as essential as your nearest old-mammoth dictionary. That is to say, this book is a decent reference for looking up something particular that is foreign to you...but almost worthless for acquiring anything remotely close to general knowledge. Buy this if you like to insert yourself dynamically into times and situations...pass it up if your analytical.
