The Fourth Wife, a dramatic book

In The Fourth Wife, Davis delineates Julia Abegg Call as the loving and brave fourth spouse of Anson Bowen Call. This dramatic story of the Mormon exodus to Mexico in the early years of the twentieth century is captivating. Davis's sympathetic rendering of the loving relationships in plural marriage brought understanding to a non-Morman
reader.

I was excited to find and read this book. My maternal grandmother was born in the colonies in Mexico and left with the exodus in 1912. I felt like I was almost reading her story with the things she told me about Pancho Villa, the federales and living in a plural marriage family (she was a child at the time). My grandma also taught me how to make Boston Cream, as was mentioned in the book. Carolyn O'Bagy Davis told the story of the Call family with dignity and grace. She did a good job explaining the beliefs of the Church and the trials of families living The Principle in Mexico during that tumultuous time.

i would recommend this for everyone to read and learn about polygamy and the true stories. To have an open mind to history
