5Obscure Believers
By Hank Muir
"Obscure Believers" is about the Brigadoon-like town of Clitherall in Otter Tail County (maybe the best-named county in America), Minnesota. Clitherall rose from nowhere, then disappeared back into the mists after fulfilling its God-given purpose. The people who built it were Cutlerites, and one of their descendants, Biloine Whiting Young, wrote this book. She is probably the only person who could have written it since she was able to draw on a lifetime of stories passed down through her family and her own skill as a widely-published scholar and historian. In telling the story of this unusual Mormon sub-group, she peels back layer after layer about their motivation and behavior and in the process provides a fascinating glimpse of pioneer life in nineteenth-century America. "Obscure Believers" is a success on every level and an important contribution to both American history and religious studies.

5women's spirituality
By william main
The hidden gem in this book is how it reveals the persistance of women's spirituality as practiced by this off-shoot of Mormonism. With the dedication of the recently restored Temnple in Nauvoo Ill. It is instructive to see the parallels between orthodox mormon spirituality and that performed by the Cutlerites in Minnesota.
A little insight into standard Mormon practice informs a reading of this book.
