A well written biography of a man that is about to die for his crimes.
By Felix E. Jensen
An easy read of early Mormon history by a man who was right in the middle of it. Allegedly, he was the adobted son of Brigham Young who then hung him out to dry.John Lee was the only person executed for the crimes of Mountain Meadows, a fantastic coverup by the L.D.S. Church for over a hundred years.

Very interesting take on early Mormonism from the inside...
By Dane
As a former Mormon, I found this book fascinating because of how it both matched, and did NOT match, the 'official' church histories of the time. John D Lee, according to his own account, was scape-goated by the LDS leadership as it pertains to the Mountain Meadows massacre. Written in a very direct style, it was great to read what historians refer to as 'source material.' Unfortunately, Lee's account was prefaced by someone with an obvious ax to grind against the Mormons.

The Mormon Menace: The Confessions of John Doyle Lee
By Richard Hickson
Eyeopening. This book is a great between-the-lines historical. Painted history does not tell it all like it was. Mr. Lee tells things from his point of view, of course, but so much more comes out because of it. Many historical "outlaws" are fall guys for the ever present manipulators. This book shows that there is usually someone behind the one who gets caught. A good read and I would recommend it for anyone.
