Fiction is good history

First edition Hardcover 526 pp. Blue cloth binding with gilt title to spine. Top edge gilt. 25 brown and white illustrations. Frontispiece map of Lake Michigan. Two leafs inserted between pp 394-395: one is a frontispiece for 'Book Two" and the other is a title page, "Book II The Mormon King. Spine and title page list the author as the Knight of Chillon, a pseudonym for Nehemiah Hawkins.
A novel about life on an island in Lake Michigan in 1852-53, including a section on the death of James Jesse Strang of the splinter Mormon group, the Stranganites.
