Historical report of an historical event.

This was written based on information available at the time (Early 1900's) of the 1857 "Other September 11th" where 120 men, women and children were brutally murdered by the Morman militia. There were 17 survivors - all children who at the time were below the age where, according to Mormon leadership at the time "were too young to remember". The US Army gathered up the orphaned children from Mormon farms three years after the massacre, and brought them back to Carrollton, Arkansas to be reunited with their extended families. The book used data garnered from army reports, congressional reports, and other media/oral/letters types of data. Some of the reports were based on emotional and hear-say sources (Even Mark Twain wrote about it) but over the years starting three years after the massacre, there was a 175 year period of cover-up by the LDS Church regarding their pre-planned involvement in the massacre.
After enormous pressure by the Mountain Meadows Monument Foundation (http://www.mmmf.org) and other victim's descendents groups, the LDS finally admitted their historical involvement and agreed to work with the descendents groups to obtain National Historical Landmark Status for the massacre site located between Cedar City and Saint George, UT. NHL status was accomplished in 2011, thanks mostly to the cooperative efforts of the LDS and the other groups.
There are many more books on the subject, and I recommend any researcher to look for them all. This particular book has some information that is now proven to be less than completely facutal. But having it helps one glean out where the facts are and how the intensity of this event affected the country right as the Civil War was about to begin.
The MMMF donated a "Mountain Meadows Massacre Section" to several libraries throughout the country. These library sections provide several books by historians and those who attempted to cover up the facts.
